Seminar: Free Style Push Hands Sept 2026

Learning how to apply Taijiquan deepens one’s appreciation of the art. This seminar will highlight Free Style pushing hands principles. Free Style Push Hands is the synthesis of many principles in Taijiquan. Its reactive improvisational nature is a necessary guide to actually applying Taijiquan principles. From these drills a vast number of techniques are possible.

Students will learn

  • Explore stationary and moving Tui Shou (Push Hands).
  • Develop Na Jin (Controlling techniques) and Chan Si JIn (Silk Reeling)
  • Build a strong foundation.
  • Explore Root (Dynamic Balance) and whole body motion.
  • Go beyond the choreography and add other techniques, expanding your repertoire.

Leading the seminar is Jeffrey Pratt, a recognized instructor by YMAA International. Mr. Pratt has been practicing Taijiquan since 1987. He has taught and competed in Taijiquan nationally and internationally. A national champion and grand champion in Pushing Hands. He shares his love of the art and experience with everyone in the seminar.
